How to convert an hourly wage to an annual salary

First find your weekly pay by multiplying your hourly wage by the hours you work each week. Then multiply that weekly figure by the number of weeks you work per year to get your annual salary. Monthly pay is simply the annual salary divided by 12.

For example, at $25 per hour working 40 hours a week: 25 × 40 = $1,000 per week. Over 52 weeks that is 1,000 × 52 = $52,000 per year, which works out to 52,000 ÷ 12 = $4,333.33 per month.

Lowering the weeks per year lets you account for unpaid time off. If you only work 50 weeks, the same $1,000 week becomes $50,000 a year instead of $52,000. This is a gross (pre-tax) estimate and does not include taxes, benefits, or overtime.

Frequently asked questions

How many weeks should I use per year?

Use 52 for a full year with paid vacation. If you take unpaid time off, subtract those weeks — for example, use 50 weeks if you have two unpaid weeks off.

Is this my take-home pay?

No. This shows gross pay before taxes, insurance, retirement contributions, and other deductions. Your actual take-home pay will be lower.

How do I include overtime?

This calculator uses a single flat rate. If you regularly work overtime at a higher rate, calculate that pay separately and add it to the yearly total.
